Adding an image to a Sixent (Alpha Week 2) Profile

In May, I am going to be attending the Community 2.0 Conference. One of my marketing contacts for the Community 2.0 Conference sent me the following banner:

Simon Chen - I’m Speaking at Community.jpg

The idea is to use this banner to advertise the event on things like blogs. I thought I'd post this to my Sixent Profile. So, how can this be done on Sixent in its Alpha stage?

1) Just add a photo...

Unfortunately, the current 'photo item entry tool' (sorry, don't know what we call it) must exist in a folder and the folder feature does not exist for Profile Pages at this time. So, this option doesn't work.

2) Load the photo somewhere on the web & refer to it with code using a custom pod. There isn't a CommunityZero-like 'files' feature where I can load such files to. So I did the following instead:

a) On my Site page, I created a new folder which I called 'Hidden'

Hidden Folder

b) Adjust the 'Hidden' folder settings so only I can view it.

only me can view

c) Upload the banner image.

upload image

d) I did a right click to find this image's url

url

e) Then I went to my Public Profile and added a custom content pod

custom content pod

f) and referenced the image stored in my hidden site folder created above with a little image tag

imgsrc

Here is the final result:

public site with banner

And, the 'hidden' folder is only visible to me!

hidden folder is hidden

I spoke with Phil & Dwain this morning.  As described above, I can initially use the link to the image stored in my 'hidden' folder.  However there is security designed to invalidate that link at the end of the day.  So, what I described above only works for one day - I'd have to manually update the link each day.  They note why I wanted to do that (i.e. store file so that I can reference it) and are considering other options to allow me to achieve the same result.

I think it would be really cool if we had a Photo pod that when we add it it would allow us to view a list of all our Picture Items on our site and then choose one to display in the pod instead of having to code up an IMG tag in a custom content pod.
